The tape is a formal interview with Sonya Meyerovna Kapustina, nee Kolomeir. After a discussion about her family, she talks about Jewish life before the war in Khmil'nyk. Kapustina was born in Khmil'nyk in 1922. Her father died in a camp. Her brother lives in America. Her second brother lived in Israel. Her grandfather Mordkhe was a salesman.
The conversation then turns to life in the ghetto during the war, before she discusses her childhood. Her entire family lived in the ghetto in Khmil'nyk. They celebrated Jewish holidays before the war since her father was observant. She went to a Jewish school for six grades before they turned it into a Russian school. Her uncle owned a mill in a village called Kurilovka before the war. She explains in great detail how her uncle went missing during the war. Then the conversation turns to Jewish life in Khmil'nyk before the war. In particular, she discusses synagogues in Khmil'nyk.
Kapustina then discusses her professional life after the war. She worked as an accountant, although she wanted to study medicine. However, she was not allowed to do so. The conversation returns to the discussion of her life during the war. She explains in detail how they gathered her family to lead them to the ghetto. Beforehand, they went to her aunt’s house in order to stay together. Shortly after, they took her family toward the river in harsh winter conditions. The interview concludes with a discussion about life after the war and today. She talks about her relatives in America and Israel. Moreover, she recalls her visit to Israel and how she attempted to get an Israeli passport.
