Within a broadly collaborative effort, the EVIA Digital Archive Project is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Indiana University, and the University of Michigan.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation formed in 1969 through the consolidation of two previously existing foundations. The current assets from the Mellon Foundation position them as a leader in funding sources for humanistic projects with annual grantmaking appropriations of approximately $210 million. Currently, the Mellon Foundation makes grants in six program areas including Higher Education and Scholarship, Scholarly Communications, Research in Information Technology, Museums and Art Conservation, Performing Arts, and Conservation and the Environment. Within each of these core programs, the Foundation concentrates most of its grantmaking in a few areas. Their grantmaking philosophy is to build, strengthen and sustain institutions and their core capacities rather than be a source for narrowly defined projects. The Mellon Foundation therefore is primarily interested in long term collaborations with grant recipients, investing funds for significant periods of time to accomplish goals in compliance with their philosophy and to achieve meaningful results.
