Technical Metadata Tool - The EVIA Digital Archive Project

Technical Metadata Tool

home research & development software development

The Technical Metadata Tool is a web-based application for assigning technical metadata during the video preservation production process. The schema is based on the AES audio technical metadata schema, as there is no established standard for video technical metadata to date.

The Technical Metadata Tool is designed to address the particular workflows of the EVIA Project preservation process. It thus has a special area for DigiBeta information, for example, which until 2008 was the preservation master format for analog source video, and it allows the EVIA Project to build device chain maps that can be quickly assigned during the transfer process. The tool allows production site technicians to enter data about each object and its corresponding transfer process. Quality assurance technicians at Indiana University access this information to address questions that may arise as they check the integrity of transferred files.
